Tanzania Photo Tour Itinerary
Let’s go explore one of the best destinations for wildlife photography on earth!
“The only man I envy is the man who has not yet been to Africa – for he has so much to look forward to.”
Richard Mullin
Day 1 – 2 | Arusha
Upon your arrival at the airport in Kilimanjaro, You’ll be welcomed at the airport by our drivers and guides, who will be with you for the entire workshop.
We will depart for the Arusha National Park. Our group is in for a treat as we start our first photo safari in a 4WD jeep as well as a walking photo safari. Several paths lead to the foot of Mount Meru, and one of these reaches the brim of the Ngurdoto Crater. We will experience the vibrant wildlife of Arusha National Park, where giraffes, buffaloes, and zebras roam freely against a backdrop of lush landscapes. The park also boasts over 400 bird species, making it a paradise for birdwatchers.

Day 3 | Serengeti Center
Prepare yourself for a shooting spree beyond your imagination. Families of lions, leopards, cheetahs, wildebeests, zebras, hippos, vultures, and elephants in the endless expanses of one of the most spectacular places on earth. Upcoming days will be one of the highlights of our workshop as we will depart for the endless plains of Serengeti National Park.
This ecosystem is the oldest on the planet. It boasts a diversity of flora and fauna that is unavailable anywhere else on the globe.
Day 4 – 5 | Great Migration
We will head towards the Kenyan border, where Serengeti National Park meets Masai Mara Park. You can expect an extraordinary photographic experience, where the iconic Mara River becomes the stage for nature’s grandest spectacle – the Great Migration.
From July to October, wildebeests migrate through the Northern Serengeti in search of richer grazing grounds. Here they encounter one of the biggest challenges in their journey. The dangerous Mara River!

During the Great Migration, the Mara River is a treacherous obstacle for wildebeests and zebras as they cross it to reach the other side.
The river is home to massive Nile crocodiles that lie in wait for their prey. These crocodiles can grow up to 16 feet long (5 meters) and weigh over 1500 pounds (700 kg). The sight of these prehistoric creatures attacking their prey provides incredible moments and raw emotions.
Northern Serengeti has its fair share of other predators as well. Apart from the big cats, we can photograph also hyenas, servals, and even bat-eared foxes.
Day 6 | Serengeti
From the northern border, we move again towards the center of Serengeti not only to chase Africa’s Big 5. Photographers find themselves in a haven of opportunities, with golden hours painting the landscape in hues of warmth, and wildlife interactions creating powerful compositions.
In more than 1 million years, little has changed in the park. The dramatic landscapes and diverse wildlife make this part of Serengeti a canvas for capturing the essence of the African wilderness.

Day 7 – 8 | Ngorongoro
Early in the morning, we will head to another breathtaking location – Ngorongoro Crater which is the world’s largest inactive, unbroken, and unfilled volcanic caldera. The conservation area is home to almost 30,000 animals ranging from leopard, cheetah, elephant, and hyena to warthog, buffalo, and impala. It’s also one of the best places to see the endangered black rhino.
In Ngorongoro, we will also visit an authentic Masai village and get a chance to meet with Masai tribesmen who will welcome us with a traditional jumping dance. We will also be allowed to explore their huts and take portraits.

Weather & Temperature
The weather in August is usually pleasantly warm as the average day temperature is around 77°F (25°C), but may range in extremes from a high of 85°F (29°C) to a low of 58°F (14°C).
August is a great time to visit Tanzania from a photographer’s point of view, not only because of the Great Migration but also dry season means fewer mosquitoes.
Accommodation
We will stay in comfortable lodges, guesthouses, and cozy glamping right in the National Park. Great locations allows us to focus on wildlife and not spend hours on the road just to get to the spots. There is always a restaurant where we eat and a bar, grilling station, bonfire, and sometimes a swimming pool. Rooms are always equipped with mosquito nets, electrical outlets, etc.
Vaccination
There are no mandatory vaccinations required to visit Tanzania. As in other exotic countries, advisable are vaccinations against Hepatitis B, tetanus, polio, and diphtheria. Vaccination against Yellow Fever becomes obligatory if you have passed through endemic countries. You can consider Antimalarial medication by seeing a travel medicine specialist.
Tanzania Photo Tour Leaders
The tour will be led by one or two wildlife photography guides, along with two top local guides who will also act as drivers and spotters. We want you to capture truly stunning images on our Tanzania Photo Tour, whether you’re a beginner, an enthusiastic amateur, or a seasoned professional. Our approach is always highly personalized, ensuring that each participant receives tailored guidance in the field to match their skill level. Throughout the tour, we’ll help you master your camera settings for the best wildlife photography results and provide valuable tips and workflows for post-processing so your final images are not just good, but truly exceptional!

Testimonials | Tanzania Photo Workshop
I gravitate toward landscape and cityscape photography so a wildlife tour was not on my bucket list. However, a friend who I’d met on a previous tour had been on a trip with Martin Bisof of Inscape Photo Tours before and asked me if I’d be interested in joining her in Tanzania. Being inexperienced with wildlife, I needed help with camera settings and technique. This was my first trip with Martin, who I found to be helpful.
He did not hover, but proactively offered suggestions, asked me how I was faring (photographically), and gave me tips if he noticed areas where my technique could be improved. He’s also very personable, pleasant and low-key. I’m glad I went.
It was a productive and enjoyable trip and now I feel a little more comfortable photographing wildlife.
This August, I took my third photo trip with Inscape Photo Tours and this one was The Great Migration in Tanzania. As with previous photo tours with Inscape, every aspect of the tour was professionally taken care of. This includes everything from airport transfers to transportation during the tour to accommodations. Communication during the tour was terrific and Martin made sure to make it possible for all of the guests to come away with high quality photos. He selected local guides who know the area well and could get us to the right places at the right times, which was particularly critical for wildebeest river crossings. In addition, assistance was readily available if anyone had questions about camera settings or other aspects of their photography. A selection of the animals that we were able to photograph include: wildebeest, zebras, lions (including cubs), cheetahs, elephants, various birds, serval, hippos, crocodiles, dik dik, topi, gazelles, impala, leopard, giraffe, and baboons.
Being that I am a repeat client of Inscape Photo Tours, I can recommend this company 100%. There is a good chance that I will participate in other photo tours with them as well. Definitely recommend.
Wow! What a trip! A photo tour under the guidance and leadership of Martin Bisof. Great itinerary, wonderful lodges, and a wonderful supporting cast of wildlife in the Serengeti, Arusha, and Ngorongoro parks/reservation area.
My second photo tour with Martin. Martin strikes a nice balance between not too obtrusive but helping you when you need it.
I thoroughly enjoyed my photo safari in Tanzania. We were fortunate to see a wide variety of animals and the great migration of wildebeests. I was happy to find a tour that was strictly for photographers.
Every day we were traveling or shooting photos from sunrise to sundown. Great experience
I have just returned from an amazing trip to the Serengeti with Inscape Photo Tours. Martin our Inscape Photo guide found us far more animal shots than I could have wished for. We did a walking safari, a trip through Central Serengeti to the northern Serengeti.
Not only did we get excellent viewing spot of Lions, Cheetah, Leopards, Elephants, Hippos and many other animals but in the northern Serengeti, one of the most amazing animal crossings of the Mara River. We also saw Cheetah on the hunt, and Elephant crossing and other amazing siting’s too numerous to recount.
I highly recommend Inscape Photo Tours for anyone that wants an amazing photo safari.
It’s been great to reminisce about our time and trip to Tanzania with others. The real enjoyment was when it was ’today’. The best kind of memories in life is when they come in three’s… like friends, dreams, and memories.
I came home with a blister on one finger from taking close to 5000 photos. I never want to stop making memories with Martin and Inscape . This was not an ordinary trip, and I can’t help but look at all my photos and smile. A memory, to me, is what Tanzania was and I have found that a great experience like this tour does not completely ‘unhappen’ when you have come back home. I can assure you that this is not a trip for large lens on your camera……we got right next to most wildlife.
Guides, drivers, and assistance with taking photos was always available. A must do trip. I’m on my way to Leknes Norway next month for another Lofoten Photo Tour with Martin. Can hardly wait.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the August 2024 Tanzania Photo Workshop. Martin is an excellent teacher and photographer and a great mate to have along on the adventure. The safari crew he uses are very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and dedicated to providing their clients a memorable experience.
Our accommodations were always clean, beautiful, and safe. And the wildlife encounters created memories for a lifetime..
Our photo safari to Tanzania was amazing! This was our third trip with Martin and Inscape, so we are obviously satisfied customers.
Everything is always well coordinated and we captured wonderful images. Highly recommend.
